A Wood Toy Box Becomes An Heirloom

Memories are built one at a time and that is what toys and other treasures are all about. Children love to play with their toys, and having a place to keep them adds to the pleasure of having them since they have a home of their own. A toy box is essential for having a place to keep the treasures of childhood. A wood toy box helps to keep the memories alive. Wood is a long lived material, unlike many plastic items including toy boxes. A quality wood toy box will hold up to most anything that a child can put it through, and some of them can even double as a bench for a place to sit when the toys are all put away safe and sound. Having a toy box in a child’s room is essential for keeping everything in its place and out of the way, but more than that, it is a safe place to store child’s play things. Parents love bringing a wood toy box into the home, often because they remember the ones they had when they were young. The memories that are attached to something that has endured the trauma of childhood gives much greater value to that item. This is the reason most parents prefer to bring wood items of any kind into the home. When it comes to a toy box the memories seem to grow even fonder. It is not the style of the wood toy box or the color either that endears it to those who become accustomed to having it around. It is the time spent protecting the belongings of the child that matters, that and the fact that there are so many memories attached to the item itself. Memories of helping a child learn to pick up after themselves, and sitting on the floor beside it or on top of it reading stories. Those are the kinds of things that make an heirloom out of a piece of plain furniture. Rubber duckies, dolls, trucks and trains all find a place to call their own when they are placed inside a wood toy box. When placed beside a book case or shelf that houses books of all kinds, that toy box can be so much more. Coloring books and crayons are often used right on top of fine wood furniture, even when that furniture is the toy box. It is not unusual to find that most quality wood toy boxes are made by hand and this alone gives greater value to the toy box. In addition to that these quality pieces of furniture also generally have better quality hardware as well. A life time of love goes into wooden furniture right from the very beginning, and more than likely will see years more after the child is all grown up. When a young child grows up and then can take a treasured heirloom with them into their adult life, their sense of well being has increased because they carry with them the knowledge that they were able to take care of something special. As a matter of fact, they will normally hand down their wood toy box to their own young children.
